- He has turned 2!!
- He had a GREAT appointment with the urologist in early September, and Dr said that he is cautiously optimistic as always but that his kidneys looked less swollen and he couldn't even see his ureters on this ultrasound which means they weren't filled with fluid...so an improvement...we are just praying for CONTINUED improvement. He is still receiving his bladder meds twice a day.
- He has found his voice...you know that toddler stage where there is A LOT of babble but is formulated into kinda sentences....that's where he is right now...LOTS of "words", you could put subtitles to it.:)
- Rowdy had two year check up and he weighs in at 29.4 lbs and 33 inches tall (both in the 95 percentile on DS charts)!!
- At two year check up had to do bloodwork to check his thyroid and found that it wasn't functioning properly and diagnosed him with hypothyroidism (something very common in kids with DS) So he is on a daily medication to supplement the hormones that his thyroid is failing to produce to keep him growing strong!! Great thing i have a boy who is AMAZING when it comes to taking medicine, NEVER have had a problem! Takes it like a champ.
- Over the summer we tested his hearing and learned that he had some minor hearing loss due to fluid in his ears. So you know that means folks...the kid is getting tubes put in. This will allow him to hear properly and hopefully increase his speech. Also when we went to see the ENT Dr. they said that his adnoids were enlarged and would need to be removed too. That they say should help with the "Darth Vadar Baby" breathing we have come to expect as Rowdy's normal breathing. So that surgery is scheduled for Monday morning first thing.
- We have a cardiologist check up for him scheduled later this month. His heart hasn't been tested since he was born, during the first few weeks in the NICU. His heart at birth was perfect, so we are hoping that it is still growing and functioning properly. We will take a lovely trip up to the children's hospital for that appointment.
- He has been accepted into an incredible class for his early intervention...Toddler Talk. It is a class led by a speech language pathologist (SLP) and her assistant and has up to 5 children...great ratio!! SLPs are in HIGH HIGH demand and so we feel soo blessed Rowdy will get the great instruction he so deserves! :) We go three times a month for 90 mins and its a parent/ toddler class (I feel this will be a GREAT transition into pre-school next fall) and it is run like a mini preschool....playtime, circle time, snack time, activity time... he starts next week...my baby's first day of "SCHOOL"!! :) haha...i may or may not have bought him a cute little backpack at a garage sale the other weekend, he looks SO grown up wearing it!
- Rowdy is just as busy busy busy as ever...running around, climbing, and getting into EVERYTHING he isn't supposed to!:) He is such a joy and truly SO happy...i get compliments about his joy for life everytime we go out.
I am SOOOOOO blessed to be his mamma!!!
Yippee! A Rowdy blog update :). The only thing missing was a photo of him, but I know you'll post some when you have more than 30 seconds of "mommy alone time." Toddlers don't give you much rest--good thing he's so adorable, even with his "mad face."
ReplyDeleteGive him a big kiss from his Gma!!
And to think that next year's birthday update he'll have a sister :-)
ReplyDeleteI was beginning to wonder if we would ever have a Rowdy update...and *sob* no photos. I will have to just look at the 100+ I took of him his last visit. LOL...here's to good health, and great check ups!
