Rowdy's Trip to San Diego

Rowdy had a week of MANY firsts. We traveled to California for my cousins wedding. Rowdy experienced his first airplane. He exceeded all my expectations about babies on planes. Like clockwork, we would get settled in our seat on the plane and he would fall peacefully asleep. He was a dream baby and a wonderful travel companion.

We were SO blessed to visit with friends along the way. We got to stay with Debra, my surrogate aunt, her husband Lew, and their sweet little boy! Rowdy loved to have a little boy to follow around. On the Wed we flew down to San Diego, Rowdy started clapping for all the people walking by us in the airport. This soon became his new trick he likes to show off often! Then while we were staying with Debra on Thursday, Rowdy crawled across the room on hands and knees for the first time!!! We were all SO elated. What a special moment to share with our friends.
Debra arranged for us to go to the zoo for the day while we were down. I was excited to take Rowdy not only on his first visit to the zoo, but to the zoo I grew up in. My mom worked there for many years, and many of her original work family members who have known me since birth are still working there. It was so exciting to introduce them to my baby boy. We had a GREAT time!

Vik, one my mom's work family members tracked us down in the zoo and picked us up on her chariot to escort us around the zoo. She was SO thoughtful and had arranged for us to do a couple behind the scene things. We were able to go into the giraffe area and feed this beautiful girl some delicious biscuits, which reminded me a lot of dog treats. I was amazed at how LONG, skinny, and black her tongue was. Rowdy couldn't take his eyes off her beautiful face!

Vik had also arranged for us to head back and feed the camels some celery. Another VERY fun treat and Rowdy was just awestruck.

Vik also arranged for us to go thru the VIP line to see the baby panda. Thank you Vik! We were able to pass up a line where people were waiting up to an hour to view these beautiful creatures.

We just had the best time visiting with Debra and her beautiful family. We are so grateful for the time to catch up and I was thrilled for her to meet Rowdy and for me to meet her sweet boy. I miss her already! Thanks Deb for a fantastic visit!

  1. I'm SO HAPPY you were able to share with Rowdy all the happy memories you had "growing up" at the San Diego Zoo. The only thing he missed was his free ice cream cone for kissing the sea lion in the show--you were always the one picked from the audience!
