We decided to take a shortcut and take the small town ferry to forge the river. It was my first ferry drive EVER! So I was soooo excited. Crystal was laughing at me the whole time. She being from Seattle has taken the big ferry across the sound MANY times. This ferry ride lasted all of 30 seconds. Oh well, I was still excited.
We squished our babies in the backseat, and encouraged them to take naps on the 90 min drive. They were so cute, all approximately 6 months apart...all snuggled in for the trip.
Alas, we arrived at David Hill winery. What a beautiful location! The house sits on a wooded hillside that overlooked the rows and rows of vines. It was built in 1883, a German family established the winery that same year.
Crystal had packed PB & J lunch for us to enjoy a picnic on the front lawn of the house.
After eating the kids were all re energized and ready to roll, taking turns riding in the radio flyer pushcart that super mom Crystal had thought to pack for the kids to play with, Seriously, she's always so on top of everything!
Rowdy enjoyed sitting in the nook of a tree out back, picking at all the bark, moss, and nearby leaves. Inspecting each thing oh so carefully.
Crystal and her beautiful babies.
Rowdy & I posing in the vinyard,
oh my happy boy!
One of Ella's favorite things right now is to tackle...good thing Rowdy loves to play this game. No tears, no whining, just smiles and brushing it off and doing it again.
Mama enjoying her glass of wine....ahhh, this is a good mommy moment.
We had a such a wonderful time taking the scenic drive, picnicking, wine tasting, rolling in the grass, climbing in trees, pushing and riding in the cart, laughing and soaking up all the sunshine we could, knowing it would be gone again before we could blink a eye.
What a perfect outing for a simply gorgeous day! Bring the sun our way, will ya? It feels like mid-March here...we've only had one day so far in 2011 that broke 60 degrees--boo hoo!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to come visit in a couple weeks--tell Rowdy his Grandma Cici's coming soon!
Ahhhh red wine in the Willamette Valley. Does it get any better than this? Fun stuff, and I'm shocked you hadn't traveled on the Wheatland ferry...geesh!!!
